When You Lose Someone You Love
Annie Hendrix (August, 2021)
When you lose someone you love, have a good cry and then be happy. Then cry again, and this time cry until you are sure there are no more tears, until your clothes are sopping. Wash the clothes and dry them well and be mindful of all the little blessings: The breeze on your red, swollen eyes; the sun in your hesitant, curling smile. Listen to the words of others. When they ask “How are you?” get lost in this impossible question, the answer somewhere deep within the caverns of your grief. Respond “I’m okay, I’m coping,” until you believe it and each time you cry you'll make it true.
