Your words are just amazing in this story. To me, it is kind of like reading poetry in a short story. I love how you depict the sea life and what goes on. I am an avid fan of the beach and the sea, and this piece here was written beautifully. Thanks so much for sharing this fantastic piece with us all.
Loved the shift in mood by the end. I also really enjoy how you've written this in a way that gets us to slow down through it, take our time with each word. Great job.
Beautiful, evocative writing that feels multi-faceted and open to interpretation. My first read was quite different from the second, which was informed by your notes in the comments. Loved it.
Beautiful, evocative prose. I am curious to know who 'love' and who the hermit are. Is 'love' Earth or the ocean? Is the hermit a human being on an alien planet? Or on Earth in a future where the planet has become inhospitable to humans?
Thank you Claudia! That’s so kind of you to say. Love is a microbial mat growing on the coast of the theorized supercontinent of Amasia (on Earth) 100 million years from now. The hermit is a descendent of modern humans, and is essentially in a mech suit.
Yes, it will happen again, and, if you like, as the giant in Twin Peaks says, it is happening again. I like how this moves from serene to threatening. And how the boundary between one character and the other is poruous (fluid). Good story, Annie.
This is a gorgeous piece Annie. I love the way you have carried us into the world of the little ‘love’ and the hermit. Moving and thoughtful, thanks for sharing this with us on Earth Day. Kate
What a beautiful mix of poetry and prose. I was guessing the whole time what sort of being "love" is. I really liked how our narrator and the hermit seemed to really empathize with and look out for one another. Can't wait to read more of your writing, Annie.
Gorgeous writing that evokes the sea itself to read it. Loved this.
Thank you Stephanie, I look forward to checking your story as well!
this is beautiful and so very subtle... really great work
poetic lines throughout.
Thanks Nick!

So beautiful, and sad, and hopeful that I could weep. Marvelous!
So kind, Liz. Thank you so much for reading 💕

🥰 Thanks Shane
Beautiful, Annie! The line: “Good morning, love,” he says, and I remember that my name is love.
That hits hard! Love it!
Thanks CB 💕

Wonderful worldbuilding. Is this part of a longer story? By the way, loved the poetic bits so much!
I may expand the story sometime! Until then, most of it just lives in my imagination :)
Love the flow of it
😍😭
